A bit about us.
We are Sam and Hannah - the team that make up Zeffer Brewing Company.
Our journey to starting the Zeffer Brewing Co. started a few years back while travelling in Europe. While away, we developed a taste for cider and it dawned on us that New Zealand, with its abundance of top quality fruit, may be just the place to start making our own cider. It helped that Sam was a trained winemaker and Hannah, well she was living in the city, working a desk job but really had a hankering to get back to her country roots. In 2008, Hannah threw in the corporate towel, leaving behind her 6am alarm clock and all that rush hour traffic to join Sam in Matakana and start turning the Zeffer dream into a reality.
We knew what we wanted - a cider made from real, freshly crushed fruit. A cider that is naturally dry and that doesnt have any added cane sugar or artificial sweetners and colourings.
The name came from the sailing term "Zephyr" meaning "A light breeze". We took a little creative license with the spelling to make it our own and just like that we had "Zeffer" – a breeze in a bottle!
For us, its not just about creating a darn good drop, its a passion and a lifestyle. Its about balancing hard work with taking the time to relax and enjoy the simpler things. So grab a bottle, put your feet up and enjoy some Zeffer time. You’ve earnt it!
